About
James Gabriel Martin is a chef and photojournalist from Dublin, Ireland.
His work focuses on storytelling, heritage, and sustainability, with an interest in drawing connecting lines between Ireland’s past, present and future, and locations further afield.
Having previously worked for Lonely Planet for over five years -including their Best in Travel campaigns - he now works with clients such as the BBC and Image Magazine.
His travels on assignment as a writer, photographer and documentary filmmaker inform how he approaches cooking and sharing the story of Irish food.
Last year saw the launch of Leviathan, an online video series that highlighted food producers, musicians and crafters across Ireland.
James is also one of the creators and cooks at The Dining Club at Whitestown House.
Hosted on the grounds of a historic estate in Naul, this project sees guests sitting around a communal long table and features changing themes, table scapes and musical elements.
James is the Co-Chair of the Fingal Food Circle and is also on the Board of Directors of the Centre of Food Culture Ireland, named Innovator of the Year for Leinster at the Irish Restaurant Awards 2026.
